NZCTA Now - Building successful business relationships in China - an essential workshop

BUILDING SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS IN CHINA

An essential workshop for you and your staff as you deal with the Chinese

Gong Xi Fa Cai ! Our first event in the year of the Rabbit is not to be missed if you’re serious about engaging and building networks in China or simply negotiating a deal with Chinese counterparts.

In association with Shanghai based human resource experts, Occam, we have organised a workshop to take you through all aspects of dealing with the Chinese.

Conducted by Amy Adams, who made a highly successful but all too brief New Zealand debut at our symposium in December, you will come away from this workshop understanding the Chinese culture, protocols and business approach and able to respond effectively and positively. The end result – improved relationships and better business!

We’ve been able to keep the entry price to a very reasonable level thanks to the generous assistance of gold sponsor, Ernst & Young but because of the participative nature of the workshop, numbers are limited. Early registrations are advised.

On: Monday 28 February 2011
Venue: Ernst & Young, 41 Shortland Street, Auckland CBD
Time: Register at 8.30 a.m., concludes at 3.00 p.m. (light lunch included)
RSVP: By Thursday 24 February

Welcome our new Executive Officer

Please welcome our new Executive Officer, Ingrid Kam, Singapore born, full NZ resident for many years with English as her first language, but fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.

Ingrid will commence at our new office in the first week of February and we share her services with our friends and colleagues at ASEAN NZ Business Council and hopefully before long with the Latin America NZ Business Council.

New office ? Yes, thanks to the generosity of multinational shipping company and sliver sponsor, COSCO New Zealand and again with ANZCBC, we are setting up in a comfortable office on the third floor of the St Lawrence Building on Princes Wharf, Auckland.

We also acknowledge the kind assistance of silver sponsor, Ports of Auckland, in providing the necessary hardware to maintain our communications with you.

Please note our phone no: 09-3078808 and fax no: 09-3078812.

Prestigious China Awards planning under way again

The fourth biennial Awards are well into planning mode again so first off, diarise and keep free the evening of Thursday 12 May at the Great Room of the Langham Hotel for our signature and most prestigious event, a black tie dinner, where we celebrate our business successes in China.

Cathay Pacific has joined us again as prime sponsor of what will be known as the Cathay Pacific NZCTA China Trade Awards 2011. Cathay and HSBC will also contribute to the NZCTA supreme prize.

Our other sponsors from 2009, HSBC, COSCO, Mondiale, Ports of Auckland and Hong Kong NZ Business Association have signed up again as sponsors for this year, joined by new sponsors, Langham Hotel and Fine Wine Delivery Company.

We still have one or two vacancies for sponsorship of specific items. If you are interested email Awards co-coordinator, Shirleyanne Evans at shirleyanne.evans@nzcta.co.nz .

Next ? We’ll soon be calling for applications for the prizes. If you’ve done well and/or grown your business in China or have made a very good start or a very good recovery, you could be in line for an award. We don’t believe in taking too much of your time filling up complex forms, the criteria are simple and not too prescriptive.

We’ll keep you in touch with details as planning proceeds.

Remembering Mr Victor – read his story

Most of you knew or knew of the irrepressible Victor Percival, the pioneer China trader, who died last year.

You may not know that as well as the honours bestowed on him during his lifetime in China and NZ, his Alma Mater, Auckland GrammarSchool awarded him posthumously an Augusta Award for 2010. This is one of the School’s highest accolades.

Most fortunately, his biography was completed a couple of years prior to his death and the story of his ventures and adventures in China has been told and his legacy will live on.

Bruce Kohn, author of Kiwi Pathfinder, Vic’s biography, has most kindly donated NZCTA a further supply of copies of the book.

We can therefore offer copies to members at a heavily discounted rate - $15.00 incl gst (plus postage/processing costs if applicable) until stocks run out.

All proceeds from Bruce’s generous gesture will be put towards an NZCTA commemoration of Vic’s life and work.
