Our mission

The New Zealand China Trade Association’s mission is to promote and strengthen trade and investment relations between New Zealand and the People’s Republic of China.

To achieve this mission we:

  • Create awareness of trade opportunities and relationship initiatives between New Zealand and the People’s Republic of China
  • Foster an active community of members comprised of New Zealand-China traders and those with an interest in doing business with China
  • Organise trade missions to China and provide members with access to China business intelligence

Our history

When the New Zealand China Trade Association (NZCTA) was established in 1981 by a group of leading business people enthusiastic about the potential of trade between New Zealand and the People's Republic of China, actually doing business in China certainly had its challenges.

The Association therefore became a valuable networking organisation and indeed was soon involved in organising trade missions to assist members with introductions and to match the inexperienced newcomers with the older China hands.

At the same time it was building a reputation in both New Zealand and China as an authoritative source of opinion for the respective Governments and it forged relationships with influential Government and Business agencies in China.

Today there is a diversity of company and individual members representing the majority of New Zealand businesses that have an interest in China including seasoned traders, new exporters, business associations, shipping and freight companies, financial institutions and legal firms.
